35006 Mark 1 Brake Second Corridor - BSK

Built Metro Cammell 1956. Diagram 182, Lot Number 30229. Transferred to Departmental use in 1978 as DB 975660, and then used as a barrier vehicle for loco-hauled movement of HST stock. Numbered 6337 from 1990. Originally purchased in 1991 by a member of 35006 Loco Limited for use on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, but never put into service as it required conversion from air brake to vacuum brake. Moved by its owner from GWR to Long Marston, arriving February 1998. As built it was fitted with four second-class compartments, one toilet, guard's compartment and large luggage area. Needed major restoration, including replacement seats, refitting the toilet compartment, and replacing a number of doors, together with the sourcing and fitting of missing air-brake equipment for the guard's compartment. Restored to BR Southern Green.

21092 Mark 1 Brake Corridor Composite - BCK

Build Metro Cammell 1956. Diagram 171, Lot Number 30185. Bought by Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway in 1989 from Mid Hants Railway, but never used or restored. Purchased from GWR at scrap value. Arrived 16 November 2005. As built, fitted with three second-class compartments and two first-class compartments, separate first- and second-class toilet compartments, guard's compartment and luggage area. Complete restoration is required, although in terms of fittings, the interior is remarkably complete. During its time on the Mid Hants, compartments 1 and 2 were converted into one large saloon. It is expected this will be retained but with the addition of four open type seats. This vehicle is vacuum brake fitted.

WAGONS

RNAD 289 and 321 ~ LNWR 10T Covered Goods Wagons

Both built by LNWR circa 1910 of the type produced from around 1900 up to 1921. Built with a wooden frame, probably to Diagram D88. Appears to have been rebuilt, possibly by the LMS. Taken into use by the Royal Navy at Gosport for hauling ammunition. Both vehicles were purchased by a Society member from Gloucester Docks and arrived in December 1996.

BR 24V2T Hopper Wagon

Seven hopper wagons were acquired from storage at Rover, Longbridge, where they had latterly been used for the internal movement of coal and ash. All original identity had been removed but they carried their Rover internal numbers, R6, R7, R9, RIO, Rll, R15 and R20. Restoration has commenced and it was decided to have replica construction plates made for a batch of wagons constructed at Shildon in 1959, Lot 3221. These incorporate the Rover internal numbers and are thus 333706/7/9/10/11/15/20. All are vacuum fitted and arrived summer 2001.

ADB999061 BR 22T Tank Wagon

The history of this vehicle is unclear. It was purchased by a member from a scrapyard and arrived in August 1998. It has been restored as an Esso tank wagon, but as yet does not carry the relevant name panels on each side; the originals had been cut off. It is vacuum fitted.

35267 GWR 20T Brake Van - 'Toad'

A standard Toad brake van built at Swindon in late 1947 to Lot 1588, Diagram AA23, but not entering service until nationalisation in 1948 under BR. It was acquired from the Caerphilly Railway Society and arrived in the summer of 1997. Over a period of time, a number of the side planks have been replaced and the end section has been substantially rebuilt. Although a number of Toads were subsequently fitted with a through vacuum pipe, our example remains as built.

DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES

Barclay 0-4-ODM "Mulberry" 70047

Works No. 362, one of the first batch of standard War Department 150HP 0-4-0 diesel mechanical shunters, designed and built by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock and delivered to the War Department in 1942. Fitted with a Gardner 6L3 engine and hydraulic coupling. The loco was shipped to France in 1944 during the Normandy campaign and went to 102 Transportation Stores Depot in Bayeux. Some years later, the locomotive's wartime role was recognised when it was named Mulberry after the floating harbour used to supply the Allied forces. The locomotive returned to the UK in 1946 but was transferred to the Middle East in 1952, where it served for three years. After working at a number of MoD sites it was finally stored unserviceable at Radway Green Royal Ordnance Factory in September 1991 after suffering transmission damage. Purchased by a member of the Foxfield Railway in 1993 and returned to operational condition. Subsequently purchased by a group of Society members and arrived at Long Marston 6 August 1996.

Fitted with a 185HP Leyland 902 engine, torque converter, and epicyclic gearbox. Spent all its working life at ROF Chorley before entering preservation with Peak Rail at Darley Dale. Purchased by a Society member and arrived at Long Marston in early 1998. Although nominally operational, currently out of use due to a leaking cylinder liner.
